For that reason, he often goes back to Vietnam to determine for himself his true identity as a Vietnamese, which indicates how he is carefully trying to regain and keep in touch with his culture rather than distance himself away from it (Ardia). Most of Leââ¬â¢s childhood memories in Vietnam are of the Vietnam War, where his family struggled to escape and emigrate to the Uni ted States. Thus, these past memories hold great importance to Leââ¬â¢s identity and cultural background and to address that significance he creates pictures that address the war and his memories of Vietnam. Many of his works involve integrating familiar western images with old photos of his family and of the Vietnam War (Arcadia). It is important to see the recurring theme of his connection to Vietnamese culture as it is highly demonstrated throughout his art of his cross-cultural experience, history and struggles living in both cultures. With the Vietnam War fresh in Leââ¬â¢s memory, recurring themes of the war are vivid throughout his work. As Le was growing up in California at a young age, he had little exposure to his Vietnamese culture which was eventually fed to him through American popular culture rather than his own experiences. In the second stanza the golden bells represent wedding bells. These bells symbolize maturity and growing up but also represent one of the happiest times of someoneââ¬â¢s life as they are getting married which is a joyful time and at this point of the poem the bells are no longer tinkling as they now are chiming. In Stanza 3 brazen bells are played, these bells are terrifying as they shriek and go higher, and higher. The bells represent what is coming forth as they clang clash and roar. The Brazen bells are not chiming they are loud and obnoxious. Stanza 4 has iron bells playing that make people shiver with affright. The iron bells symbolize death. Justin Wilkerson graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design in 2012 with a BFA in photography. He has been working with clients on a small basis and has been working to expand his company. A big challenge facing Snapped is the lack of clients, which is leading to lack of income. It puts the advancement potential in jeopardy. An evaluation of the companyââ¬â¢s internal strengths, weaknesses, external opportunities, and threats serves as the foundation for this strategic analysis and marketing plan. The plan focuses on the companyââ¬â¢s growth strategy, suggesting ways in which it can build on existing client relationships, and on the development of new services and potentially products. These marketing objectives are examples of developing client relationships and engaging with Snappedââ¬â¢s target market on a personal level. Snapped expects significant growth from rigorous effort of marketing objectives. Snapped markets its services through other services that Savannah has to offer. The company wants to thrive off of the local community and its warm, welcoming environment. Creating services through the Savannah public builds lasting connections. Snapped will thrive on clients coming back for services for an average of about six years. Furthermore, the company should be debt free within three years. Setting these goals maintains motivation within the company. The urgency for growth is clear as well as the passion for meeting the needs and wants of the customer. Once Snapped measures performance of the company, they will be able to assess accurate changes of client outreach, finances, target market, competition, and quality of services. Snapped is able to utilize research from the photography industry, target market, and external forces to provide precise ways to perform and deliver special occasion photography. Nevertheless, the company will be able to adapt accordingly and display dependable and exceptional resilience. SWOT Analysis Strengths and Weaknesses Snapped has a number of strengths that will enable it to compete in this market. Its weaknesses are addressable and will improve over time. Strengths 1. Snapped is a low-margin company. The low service cost attracts customers and develops loyalty. 2. Spreading awareness of Snappedââ¬â¢s opening through business cards and word-of-mouth helps promote the business. 3. Involvement in magazine ads provides Snapped with a lead for branding the company. Branding has a long-term positive impact on businesses as it allows you to charge more for your services. 4. Proof of strong management and enthusiasm for this company will have a long-term positive impact, which also adds to its value. 5. Having brand new photography equipment allows Snapped to better meet the needs of their customers in ways that competitors may not be able to. Working in a small studio and employing minimal staff gives Snapped a greater advantage against larger photography studios. A small studio is ideal to create relationships with the customer. Weaknesses 1. $6000 is a tight budget for Snapped to get their business established, however, considering the photography equipment has already been purchased, the budget can be managed. 2. The online market is essential for displaying information and selling products. A weak online presence can result in lost opportunities for Snapped as well as potential clients or partners. 3. A weak cost structure means Snappedââ¬â¢s costs are high in comparison to their competitorsââ¬â¢. Cost structure will have a long-term negative impact on this studio, which subtracts from the studios value. With a weak cost structure, Snapped becomes less competitive and decreases their value in the market share community. 4. Lack of competitive advantage hurts the launch of this company, which in turn compromises the attributes that allow Snapped to outperform its competitors. Assessing and reassessing what is offered to the customers that other photographers cannot, will be vital in getting ahead in the business. Minimal initial establishment of marketing mix, product distribution, client base, and no clear image for company. Opportunities and Threats Snapped would ideally analyze the market to seek real opportunities, which exists to provide services to local wedding parties. Opportunity and threat analysis will describe the environment in which the company will compete, and the key success factors to compete as well. Opportunities 1. The city of Savannah has a high appeal for destination weddings. A wedding in Savannah is relatively less expensive in comparison to other cities in the U. S. Partnering up with wedding planners and other wedding based establishments will increase publicity for Snapped. 2. New markets allow Snapped to expand their business and diversify their portfolio of products and services. New products and services can help Snapped to expand their business and diversify their customer base. Overall, greater innovation can help Snapped to produce unique products and services that meet customerââ¬â¢s needs. 3. The online market offers Snapped the ability to greatly expand their business. Snapped can market to a much wider audience for relatively little expense. In further expansion to building a website, digital marketing goals can be set in place. These goals are things like number of positive reviews left about a company on sites like Google Reviews and Yelp, which mentions of a brand name on social media sites and the size of a companyââ¬â¢s fan base on social networking websites. 4. New technology helps Snapped to better meet their customerââ¬â¢s needs with new and improved products and services. Technology also builds competitive barriers against rivals. Technological advances make sharing events instantaneous. Consumers do not want to wait long for their images. In the past couple years, there has been a growing demand for event photographers. Threats 1. A poor economy can hurt Snappedââ¬â¢s business by decreasing the number of potential customers. When the economy is strong, more people are willing to spend the money for a wedding photographer. When the economy is weak, more people turn away from paying event photographers. A weak economy is a difficult qualitative factor to overcome, so the investor will have to spend a lot of time trying to overcome this issue. 2. Wedding photography popularity varies throughout the time of the year. Statistics show that there are fewer weddings in the winter months (January, February, and March). Snapped should consider expanding outside of solely wedding photography. 3. Existing photography businesses are already established and have an advantage. Getting above or leveling with other companies in this market will be highly crucial and competitive. 4. Changes in consumer tastes and purchase tendencies, economic downturns, new regulations, changes that affect access to Snappedââ¬â¢s business, and competitive threats, will turn customers away. 5. Difficulty convincing cost-conscious customers to spend money on a special events photographer. Matching Strengths to Opportunities/Recognizing Weaknesses and Threats 1. Having new equipment is a benefit for Snapped because some clients base the credibility of the photographer by the gear they have and how they use it. With the knowledge of how to use the existing equipment and its features, Snapped could potentially use that skill as a distinguishing factor. 2. Spreading the word about Snapped is crucial for business, whether it be through word-of-mouth, physical advertising, or social media. Networking to create partnerships will put Snapped in a powerful position. The extravagant wedding industry in Savannah calls for wedding and event photographers. Partnering and being recommended is a huge step for a new business, but yields the opportunity for success. 3. If Snapped cannot maintain its low margin plan, cost-conscious customers will be more likely to not choose Snapped over other competitors. 4. Due to the lack of initial establishment of marketing mix, product distribution, client base, and clear image of company, Snapped could suffer and potentially fail as a business if there is no immediate progression. Marketing Objectives Snappedââ¬â¢s purpose is to assist people in capturing memories and milestones that should last for a lifetime. Aside from creating a marketing-oriented and customer-focused mission statement, Snapped should establish an objective to achieve cumulative growth in net profit of at least 50% over the next 3 years. Snapped should develop benchmarks to measure progress, which will assist in accomplishing its marketing objectives. Regular reviews will provide feedback and corrective actions in a timely manner. The major marketing objective is to gain a better understanding of the needs and satisfactions of current clients. After a close analysis, Snapped could use the knowledge of it successes with current clients to market new clients. To further satisfy and capitalize on its success with current clients, benchmarks should be established and used to learn how Snapped can improve the service it now offers through knowledge of its clientsââ¬â¢ needs and specific opportunities for new service offerings. These benchmarks should be determined through marketing research and Snappedââ¬â¢s marketing information system. Snapped should create new services or even products to utilize its current equipment, technology, and knowledge base. Intangible attributes are difficult for competitors to copy, thereby giving Snapped competitive advantage. Snapped should be sensitive to the price elasticity of its service and overall consumer demand. What Snapped charges for its service minus the cost of utilities, production, operation, etc. will determine the margin. For maximum profitability, Snapped will need a low overhead. 3. Promotion A large majority of promotional expenditures would focus on physical advertising (business cards, flyers, brochures, posters, etc. ) and personal selling. Business Ethics Stealing from Employer Introduction Ethics refers to moral values that define the behavior of an individual or a group of people. It defines the perception of the good or wrong things in a society. Business ethics thus define the ethical values that relate to a business environment. This paper seeks to discuss business ethics.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Business Ethics: Stealing from Employer specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The paper will look into a case of an employee who is stranded between reporting a friend whom she has caught stealing from their employer or protecting the friend. Case John and Joanne are employees in an organization in which John has been working for the past ten years. John is quite frustrated with the organization as it has seemingly failed to acknowledge his efforts and hard work. He is then caught in an act of stealing by his friend Joanne who is then torn between turning John in or risking being charged fo r being an accomplice. Advice to Joanne The basis of ethics is to differentiate between a good and bad thing. When an individual is faced with an issue, the first step of application of ethics is the determination of whether the issue is morally right or wrong. The first step in helping Joanne is therefore to aid her perception of ethics or morality with respect to Johnââ¬â¢s act. She must identify the act as either ethical or not in order to make her decision. She must therefore be brought to ethical values to help her gain insight into the issue. Joanne should for example be asked whether or not John was being honest with the organization or even with himself when he resorts to steal from the company. She should also be asked to determine in her opinion whether Johnââ¬â¢s act of attempting to steal was lawful. Was John under any conflict of interest in stealing? These questions will help Joanne to actually understand that Johnââ¬â¢s action was not ethical at all in terms of ââ¬Å"basic honesty and conformity to law, conflict of interest and fairnessâ⬠(National 1). Although ethical dilemmas are common issues in business environment, an individual is expected to apply critical reasoning together with ââ¬Å"moral creativity, negotiating skills and personal values to solve such dilemmasâ⬠(Weiss 96). A consideration of ethical values reveals that John has acted unethically and thus Joanne ought to act in accordance with the values of honesty to her employer and avoidance of conflict of interest. Ethics dictates that the interest of her employer comes first before that of her friend. Joanne sho uld therefore use her ââ¬Å"moral creativity and negotiation skillsâ⬠(Weiss 96) to convince John not to attempt stealing again. She needs to help John in understanding moral principles and better ways through which his problems in the organization can be resolved such as negotiations to promotions. Joanne should however take no action towards Johnââ¬â¢s supervisor especially if John is remorseful over his act and if he doesnââ¬â¢t have a history of such behavior or otherwise report him. Failure by Joanne to take any action will promote the act in John. The key terms related to this case that are associated to business and professional ethics are honesty and fairness. National. Their existed an environment where no emphasis was paid on the rights on employees and their needs. In order to properly defend the statement, one needs to look into the reasons for these developments that have been mentioned in the statement. Post-modernism is a concept that is deep rooted in history and is one of the fundamental reasons of the development of the recent organizational structures, bureaucratic environments and empowered employees. A discussion regarding how modernism started would first require understanding what existed in the pre-modernist era. The need for post modernism has been rooted deep in the history of mankind. It was first used in 1914 to describe the changing mindsets of people against the society prevailing at that time. Then came in modernism which gave people an escape from the normality and let people question their beliefs and creativity was fostered. However, it gave rise to modernity or bureaucracy. Bureaucracy usually uses rules and guided procedures in order to accomplish their tasks and depend on the predictability of events. They give no space to the unpredictably of life. In management terms, this would mean that there is task continuity prevalent in organization practicing bureaucracy and people would be subjected to strict rules and norms, repeated preprogrammed tasks and would be provided with stable and probable environments where homogeneity exists between the goods and services offered. Post modernism was a reaction to the modernistic ideas. Post-modernism largely is defined by the age in which there was intellectual growth, cultural enhancement, and development of an artistic state without the boundaries and restrictions of the hierarchies( Frederick, 1984). Post modernism stated that there are no clear cut and defined lines to a central successful organizational principle. It negated the aristocratic or the central hierarchy system and paved way for a more people oriented idea to organization development. Development of post-modernism was a result of the changing times and environment as well. It helped in almost all the disciplines of modern era. Post-modernistic ideas helped in the development of architecture, law, culture and literature. It heavily influenced the marketing and management fields of science as well. The management scenario changed completely with the advent of this idea in the society (Tim, 1999). The main focus would be kept over management and marketing practices because of the topic at hand. Post-modernism can be best explained as an era where nothing is certain and nothing is impossible. There are endless possibilities waiting to be grasped and countless situations in which a man can find himself. However, it has its share of criticism as being meaningless when it came to evaluating mathematical structures. Many people also argue that the era we are living right now is the post-postmodern condition.
